چکیده

This chapter presents a review of tracking methods for the modelling of immiscible interfaces and analyses the fluid flow aspects of a new application of a twin-screw extruder (TSE) in the rheomixing process. It also simulates fundamental micro-mechanisms of the rheological behaviour of immiscible liquid alloys with piecewise linear interface construction (PLIC) volume-of-fluid (VOF) methods on Eulerian grids in two and three-dimensional two-phase processes. The method is coupled with the continuum surface force (CSF) algorithm for surface force modelling, supported by a multi-grid solver that Correspondence/Reprint request: Prof. H. Wrobel 226 enables the resolution of large density ratio between the fluids and fine scale flow phenomena. A numerical modelling procedure for investigation of immiscible binary liquid alloy flows in shear-induced mixing is established and evaluated through various immiscible flow cases for maintaining sharp interfaces in the meso-/micro-scale. Numerical results show good qualitative agreement with experimental results. It is concluded that immiscible interfaces in two-phase material mixing can be numerically simulated, and the results are useful for optimisation of the material design and operation processes.

A multiphase tracking method for modelling the interfacial flow of two immiscible liquids in mixing process

This paper presents an interface tracking method for modelling the flow of immiscible metallic liquids in mixing processes. The methodology can provide an insight into mixing processes for studying the fundamental morphology development mechanisms for immiscible interfaces. The VOF method employed here utilises the piecewise linear for interface construction scheme as well as the continuum surf...

Mechanism of drop coalescence at the interface of two immiscible liquids

Several processes involve two immiscible liquid phases with dispersed drops surrounded by a continuous phase. The drops coalesce for joining their mother phase. This phenomenon occurs in many industrial mixing, separation, as well as in environmental processes. This paper is focused on the problem of the coalescence of a single drop at the planar interface of two immiscible liquids. An original...

Mixing of the Immiscible Liquids in the Entrance Region of a T-Type Chamber Using Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) Method

A Laser Induced Fluorescence technique (LIF) has been used to study the mixing behavior of two emerging streams in a T-Type mixing chamber. A mixing index on the basis of digital image light intensities is calculated. It has been shown that averaging over more than 800 images leads to a stable mixing index calculation. Moreover, the effect of equal and un-equal flow rates on the mixing behavior...

Interface Tracking Method for Compressible Multifluids

This paper is concerned with numerical methods for compressible multicomponent fluids. The fluid components are assumed immiscible, and are separated by material interfaces, each endowed with its own equation of state (EOS). Cell averages of computational cells that are occupied by several fluid components require a “mixed-cell” EOS, which may not always be physically meaningful, and often lead...

Numerical Investigation of Fluid Mixing in a Micro-Channel Mixer with Two Rotating Stirrers by Using the Incompressible SPH Method

Fluid mixing is a crucial and challenging process for microfluidic systems, which are widely used in biochemical processes. Because of their fast performance, active micromixers that use stirrer blades are considered for biological applications. In the present study, by using a robust and convenient Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ISPH) method, miscible mix...
